The Best Diesel Trucks in 2025
Ram Heavy Duty (HD)
The Ram Heavy Duty, available in 2500 and 3500 grades, is one of the most luxurious pickups in the segment, but that doesn’t mean it skimps on capability. Ram’s Heavy Duty lineup received a wide range of updates last year. These include a new straight-six diesel engine, a new transmission, updated tech and a refreshed look. The new diesel powerplant is a 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six that is rated at 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, and an eight-speed automatic transmission now handles the gear changes. This new combination offers max tow ratings for the diesel-powered Ram 3500 of 36,610 pounds when gooseneck trailering and 23,000 pounds with a conventional hitch. Those figures aren’t quite as high as the F-Series’ quoted max trailing spec of 40,000 pounds with a gooseneck trailer or 30,000 pounds with a conventional hitch, but it’s still far more towing capability than most folks will ever need.
The diesel 2500 starts at $64,975 and the new diesel 3500 is priced from $79,045, including destination fee.
