Best Small SUVs of 2024
In an odd twist, Mazda decided to offer two distinct but similarly sized (and named) crossover SUVs in 2024. While we think the CX-50 is the better vehicle overall, buyers looking for a nice, reliable SUV that’s just a few years old may be drawn to the CX-5 if they find one at an attractive price point. Like the CX-50 (and, really, Mazda’s entire lineup), the 2025 CX-5 lands on the sportier side of the crossover SUV spectrum, with engaging driving dynamics, communicative steering and an optional turbocharged engine. The base four-cylinder engine can feel lackluster when accelerating, the firm ride may be a turnoff for buyers who are looking for more comfort, and the CX-5’s interior and cargo space are on the small side for the compact crossover class.
